Malaysia
The investment property market in Malaysia may be in its infancy but is a very exciting market place. Backed by great tourism figures (in December 2009 there was a year on year increase of 9,2%,) this is becoming a great place to invest. The use of the English language is widespread, including within the legal system. The property purchase process is also very similar to other commonwealth states, simplifying the purchase of investment property in Malaysia considerably.
A significant initiative for overseas investors is the Malaysia My Second Home program. This program, aimed at foreign retirees mainly, has so far attracted over 10,000 participants from the UK, Japan and China, among others. This not only boosts the real estate industry directly, with increased demand for second homes and retirement properties, but also has a secondary effect through increased numbers of friends and relatives who visit the country.
With the Malaysian economy already growing by 6 per cent per annum and showing no real signs of cooling off, Malaysia is set to continue its popularity amongst property investors in 2009.
